A weekend of gun violence in the Marchand community has left two people dead and another nursing multiple gunshot wounds, pushing Saint Lucia’s homicide count to 30 for the year.
The first shooting occurred on the evening of Saturday, May 9, in the Marchand Boulevard area.
Initial reports indicated that a female resident of Marchand Boulevard was fatally shot during the incident, while a male who was also at the scene sustained multiple gunshot injuries.
The injured male was rushed to hospital for emergency medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by medical personnel to save him. Reports indicate that he sustained several gunshot wounds to the upper torso.
Police have since launched investigations into a separate shooting incident which occurred in the Marchand community on the afternoon of Sunday, May 10, 2026.
According to preliminary reports, a male individual sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the incident. Emergency responders transported the victim to a medical facility in critical condition.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the victim, and details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear.
The incidents have prompted concern from Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Castries East, Philip J Pierre, who issued a public statement on Sunday expressing condolences to the affected families and reaffirming the government’s commitment to tackling violent crime.
“As Parliamentary Representative, I am deeply saddened by the homicides that occurred over the weekend,” Pierre stated in a Facebook post on May 10.
“I extend sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. These acts of violence are a matter of grave concern.”
The Prime Minister disclosed that he has already been in discussions with senior officials of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force regarding the incidents.
“I have been in discussions with the leadership of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, and I have been assured that they will use every lawful means available to apprehend those responsible and to restore order,” Pierre said.
He further revealed that additional meetings with law enforcement officials have been scheduled as authorities intensify their response to the recent violence.
“I have also convened a meeting with the Police High Command tomorrow morning to receive further updates and to determine the way forward as we continue to address crime and violence in our country,” the Prime Minister added.
“The safety and security of our citizens remain a top priority of my Government.”
