Tragedy has struck the south of Saint Lucia after a minibus plunged into a precipice in Ma Jomel, Laborie, claiming the lives of three people, including a six-year-old child.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Luke Defreitas confirmed that emergency responders were dispatched to the scene as details of the incident began to emerge.
“In the south of the island, Ma Jomel, Laborie, a vehicle has been discovered in a precipice, I believe, with three persons on board, two adults and a child. Circumstances appear, well, serious, but that is as much as I have for now,” he said.
Defreitas added that police and fire personnel were actively engaged in recovery efforts.
“As we speak, police and fire service are on the scene, extracting these persons from the wreckage.”
Further details were provided by Saint Lucia Fire Service Press Officer Sherise John, who outlined the timeline and severity of the incident.
“On Tuesday February 24th 2026, officers of the Saint Lucia Fire Service responded at 10:07 a.m. to a motor vehicular incident involving a minibus veering off the road and into a precipice at Ma Jomel, Laborie,” she said.
“On arrival at the scene, officers began extrication, where three persons were recovered from the vehicle. An adult male and female, and a minor, female.”
John confirmed that all three occupants sustained fatal injuries.
“An assessment revealed major trauma to their bodies. They were pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor.”
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation as authorities work to determine what led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Laborie community, with the loss of a young child among the victims deepening the tragedy.
