The Saint Lucia Football Association Incorporated (SLFA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the development of football across the island, as member leagues gathered for its 40th Annual Ordinary Congress on June 6, 2026, at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Rodney Bay.
The congress brought together representatives from across the football fraternity to review annual reports, approve budgets, and deliberate on strategies aimed at advancing both domestic competition and international opportunities for Saint Lucian players.
According to the association, the long-term objective remains focused on creating pathways that allow local talent to translate sporting ability into professional careers, supported by structured development systems and stronger institutional partnerships.
SLFA President Lyndon Cooper used the platform to emphasize the need for innovation and collective responsibility in driving the sport forward.
“We must continue to find innovative ways to ensure that we meet our objective and all together we must continue to play our part as individuals, as member leagues and collectively as an organization,” he said.
Cooper warned that the sport is entering a period of significant transition, with changes expected to shape the future structure and development of football in Saint Lucia.
“In 2026, there are going to be significant changes,” he stated.
A key area of focus highlighted by the SLFA President was the importance of certification and formal training within the sport, particularly in relation to coaching standards and technical development.
“It is only through certification that the game is going to grow at a rate that we have not seen before,” Cooper said. “The rate at which we are training coaches is not in keeping with the pace that we want to grow the game.”
The SLFA maintains that improving coaching education, strengthening technical capacity, and enhancing organizational standards are essential components of its broader strategy to elevate the quality of football in Saint Lucia.
The congress is expected to guide policy direction for the coming year as the SLFA continues efforts to modernize the sport and strengthen its developmental framework across all levels of competition.
