The Saint Lucia Fire Service has provided an update on the volume of emergency calls received over the weekend, which included a fatal road accident that claimed the life of four-year-old Rikki Samuel.
According to Communications Officer Cheria St. Rose, the Fire Service recorded over one hundred calls during the period of October 24th to October 27th, 2025.
“For the period of October 24th to October 27th, 2025, the Saint Lucia Fire Service responded to a total of 116 calls, comprising 113 medical responses and three fire calls,” St. Rose stated.
“Of the medical calls received, 90 were emergency responses and 23 were non-emergency responses. Fire personnel also responded to three rubbish fires during said period.”
The most serious incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, October 25th, at approximately 9:10 a.m., when fire officers from the Vieux Fort and Micoud Fire Stations, as well as the Crash Fire Hall, responded to a three-vehicle collision at La Ressource, Vieux Fort.
“The incident involved two passenger buses and a minibus bearing a taxi plate,” St. Rose reported. “Upon arrival, emergency responders assessed a total of 13 patients, including a four-year-old child.”
She said that first responders immediately began medical interventions upon discovering the child was unresponsive.
“A primary assessment revealed that the child was pulseless and apneic. He received immediate medical intervention before being transported to the St. Jude Hospital, where he was pronounced dead,” St. Rose confirmed.
The collision left several passengers injured and trapped.
“Three passengers were found trapped in one of the passenger buses and required extrication,” she added. “Several other passengers sustained various injuries. A total of 13 patients were treated and transported to the St. Jude Hospital by the Saint Lucia Fire Service emergency crews, while a few other individuals were transported privately for additional medical care.”
Beyond the fatal crash, emergency personnel faced an especially busy weekend.
“In addition to the major incident, the Saint Lucia Fire Service recorded 12 other motor vehicle accident responses on Saturday, October 25th and Sunday, October 26th, 2025,” St. Rose said.
Authorities have since urged motorists to exercise greater caution on the nation’s roads, as investigations into the cause of the deadly collision continue.
