Housing Minister and Member of Parliament for Castries Central, Richard Frederick, has confirmed that he was detained by police on the morning of Thursday July 2nd, stating that the matter relates to allegations spanning more than a decade, while firmly maintaining his innocence.
Frederick addressed the issue publicly during his weekly talk show programme, “Can I Help You?,” where he said he was taken from his home by officers and later cooperated fully with investigators.
“Folks, I don’t want to go into the merits or the merits of an accusation made against me, or accusations rather,” Frederick said, before referencing the timeline of the allegations.
“But suffice it to say accusations, 2015, 2019, and the last was August, specifically 20th August 2025,” he stated. “So we have a span of 11 years ago, then comes down to 7 years ago, and then 11 months ago. 11 years ago, 7 years ago, 11 months ago. But, you know, I have always been astute in keeping records.”
Describing the events of Thursday morning, Frederick said he was met at his home by police officers who informed him of the situation and requested his presence at the station.
“Sadly, I was greeted by a barrage of police officers at my house this morning,” he said. “And I asked why, they told me, I cooperated with them. They did what they had to do and told me, you know, they need to see me at the station. I accompanied them to the police station.”
Frederick said that after hearing the nature of the allegations, he remained confident in his position and insisted he has nothing to hide.
“And when I heard all the allegations, I knew in my heart of hearts, that in a nutshell, Richard has nothing to fear,” he said.
While acknowledging the ongoing nature of the investigation, the Minister said he would not comment further on the specifics of the case in order to avoid interfering with due process.
“I don’t wanna go into everything because obviously, the police are conducting the investigations and I don’t want in any way, shape or form to compromise the integrity of the investigations,” he stated.
Frederick also spoke at length about his personal principles, rejecting what he described as false accusations and asserting that truth and justice will prevail.
“But what I do know is this man you see there, call me what you want, call me this, call me that,” he said. “But there are certain things I don’t cross boundaries on, never and never will, okay? I don’t cross those boundaries. I have five daughters, five.”
He added that he rejects what he characterized as attempts to harm reputations through falsehoods.
“Anyone who believes that they can seek elevation in life by trampling on the head of another, by doing disservice to another, by fabricating stories on another, by basically spreading propaganda that is false, at some point, the truth and the truth must prevail, must prevail, must, not mere, must, must, you know.”
Frederick further insisted that he would not be undermined by what he described as fabricated claims.
“So those of you who believe that you can patch up a story, I’m not saying it in that case, you can patch up a story and sell it like you will sell ice to Eskimos. As long as Richard Frederick is anyway involved, Richard Frederick will melt the ice. He will melt the ice,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming his belief in justice and due process.
“Because I do believe in justice. I always say let the chips fall away from me,” Frederick stated.
