Members of the Senate (Upper House) were sworn-in on Tuesday, December 16th, with the return of Senate President Alvina Reynolds.
Senator Allison Jean was appointed Leader of Government Business; former Babonneau MP Dr Virginia Albert-Poyotte returned to the House, this time as a government Senator. Government Senator Mtonya Deterville is a newcomer, not just to the Parliament, but to partisan politics in general.
Other Government Senators include Dr Ignatius Jean, Dr. Shanda Lee Harracksingh, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Opposition Senators include Opposition Business Leader, Tommy Descartes, who failed in his elective bid against incumbent Castries South MP, Dr Ernest Hilaire, a recently-defeated Elisha Norbert who contested the Micoud North seat against incumbent Jeremiah Norbert, and a former UWP candidate for Dennery North, Phera Polius.
