The Central Statistical Office is enhancing public access to national data with the launch of an upgraded Redatam platform, allowing users to explore census and survey microdata through a more dynamic and interactive interface.
Bert Collymore, Information Systems Manager at the Central Statistical Office, explained that the platform has strong regional roots.
“Redatam actually is a software and application that was designed by ECLAC, which is the Latin American and Caribbean branch economic division and the Caribbean. So, the software was developed in Chile by some of the engineers there and it has been used predominantly in the Caribbean for the dissemination of data, particularly censuses and surveys, survey of living conditions and so forth.”
The software, created by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, has become a key tool across the region for managing and distributing large volumes of statistical information. Its use in Saint Lucia marks a continued effort by the Central Statistical Office to modernize how national data is shared with policymakers, researchers, students and the wider public.
Collymore noted that the upgraded platform allows users to generate customized tables and reports based on a wide range of indicators captured during the national census and other surveys.
“We can get data on demography, demographics of the country, based on different districts. So, you could see the socio-economic activities happening in different districts. You could get this data from agriculture, data tourism.”
He added that the scope of available information is extensive. “It primarily is all of the indicators that we captured for our census.”
With the improved Redatam system, users can access data in real time, filter information by geographic area and topic, and extract insights relevant to economic planning, social development, and academic research. Officials say the upgrade represents an important step in promoting transparency, evidence-based decision-making, and broader public engagement with official statistics.
The Central Statistical Office believes the strengthened platform will empower citizens and institutions alike by making reliable, up-to-date information more readily available, supporting national development through informed analysis and planning.
