Castries South East has taken an early lead in Saint Lucia’s jazz season with the highly anticipated Hills and Valleys Inspirational Jazz event, an initiative that blends music, community, and culture into one vibrant experience.
The event promises an uplifting evening of performances, featuring a dynamic mix of regional headliners and local talent, while also creating space for community engagement and economic activity within the constituency.
Marketing Officer for the event, Tanica Edwin, highlighted the organizers’ commitment to showcasing both regional and homegrown artistes.
“We have Mavia Providence from Jamaica, Jaron from Trinidad and Shirley-Ann Cyril Meyers who is not only from Saint Lucia but from Castries South East and if you realize we have a mix of local and regional artists which is something that we aimed to do,” Edwin explained.
She added that the event will also spotlight emerging talent from within the constituency.
“We’ll be having also AJ and very talented young people from the Castries South East constituency.”
Beyond the music, organizers have placed strong emphasis on creating a family-friendly atmosphere. Edwin noted that this year’s event will feature an expanded children’s area designed to run alongside the main programme.
“Our kids zone now has its own designated section and we have decided to include many things even like horse riding and we’ll have our trampoline, our bouncy castle as usual, face painting and other attractions for the kids and that will be running concurrently to the program,” she said.
“So, whilst parents are enjoying their evening, we have volunteers that are supervising the children in the kids zone. So, all of this, the fees, well the entrance will ensure that we have a very exceptional product for the community.”
Parliamentary Representative for Castries South East, Lisa Jawahir, underscored the broader vision behind the initiative, pointing to its role in strengthening community ties and supporting local enterprise.
“We believe in continuity in this administration. It was very successful and we want to continue to build a legacy of establishing community and building strong ties in our constituency,” Jawahir stated.
“This activity allows for our vendors to participate. It brings a lot of economic activity to Castries South East and yes we do have a lot to offer especially as the second largest constituency in Saint Lucia.”
The Hills and Valleys Inspirational Jazz event stands as a testament to the constituency’s cultural vibrancy, blending entertainment with opportunity while reinforcing the role of community-based events in national cultural development.
