The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) delivered a commanding show of strength on Sunday, December 7th, as thousands of jubilant supporters flocked to the Darren Sammy Cricket Grounds to celebrate the party’s sweeping electoral victory.
The massive crowd, dressed in red and waving party flags, signaled strong enthusiasm as Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre and other key speakers laid out an ambitious vision for the next four years.
Taking the stage to thunderous applause, Prime Minister Pierre urged supporters to ignore attempts to create division.
“They have tried to divide us. They have tried to cause problems between us. But do not let them disturb us,” he said.
He told the crowd that the coming years would bring policies aimed squarely at improving the lives of ordinary citizens. “We have many plans for you. We have to improve your life. We have to make you better. We are going to make you better. And you will see,” Pierre declared.
With the 2026 budget expected in April, Pierre promised that it will be unlike any before it. “In that budget you will see policies that will improve the life of everybody in Saint Lucia, everybody,” he emphasized.
The Prime Minister made a direct appeal to the nation’s young men, promising targeted support and opportunities.
“In the coming four years, we want to make a special appeal to the young men of Saint Lucia. We are going to have special incentives for the young men of Saint Lucia,” he said.
Urging them not to be misled by political theatrics, he added, “We do not want people to be able to fool them when elections come with all kinds of nonsense. They rejected that. They rejected that.”
Castries South East MP Lisa Jawahir electrified the gathering with an emotional reflection on her victory.
“I have to say thank you to the Most High because without him we would not be here tonight. I would not be here tonight,” she said, expressing deep gratitude to her family and campaign team.
She credited young people for her triumph in one of the island’s most closely watched constituencies. “It was a young team with no experience but that team gave the opposition an eleven hundred and twelve vote victory margin in Castries South East. Young people led the charge for the Saint Lucia Labour Party and kept the flag flying high,” Jawahir stated.
Jawahir also praised outgoing MP Joachim Henry for his mentorship. “He woke me up every single morning and said, sister Lisa, what are we doing today? It is operation ‘Finish Him’,” she said.
Turning to the Prime Minister, she added, “To our Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre. The boss. The boss. Sixteen one. The man is truly a mystery. He stayed quiet and he did what nobody thought he could have done.”
Castries South MP Dr. Ernest Hilaire urged supporters to understand the work ahead.
“They have signaled to us that the battle has not ended. And therefore, do not think that it is going to be easy moving forward,” he said. Calling for unity, he added, “Let us move forward together. Our country is better when we work together.”
Hilaire promised that the next term we’ll build on the foundation laid since 2021. “If you believe the last four years were great under Philip J. Pierre, look forward to the next four years. What we were doing for the last four years was repairing the damage and setting the foundation for the glorious future that we will deliver to our people,” he said.
Hilaire also saluted Labour supporters for achieving what he called an unprecedented victory. “You fought a good fight. You delivered like never before. Never before in Saint Lucia’s history has a political party been defeated like we defeated the United Workers Party. And it is because of you,” he said.
