Advanced polling for essential workers across Saint Lucia is officially underway as the island moves closer to its next general election. The early voting process, which traditionally accommodates individuals who are unable to cast their ballots on the main polling day, began this morning with high expectations for a smooth and orderly turnout.
Prime Minister Philip J Pierre addressed the nation early today through a statement on his official Facebook page. He described the commencement of advanced polling as another important step in safeguarding the country’s democratic traditions.
“Our Advanced Poll is today,” the Prime Minister said. “I want to thank each of you for your dedication, discipline, and unwavering commitment to our democracy. Your service ensures that every vote is counted, every voice is heard, and our nation continues putting people first.”
He also urged polling personnel and participating essential workers to remain focused throughout the day. “Stay focused, stay calm, and carry out your duties with the integrity that defines us,” Pierre said.
Advanced polling typically includes police officers, fire officers, prison staff, election workers, and other essential service personnel whose duties prevent them from voting on the official election day. The Electoral Department has indicated that all necessary systems are in place to facilitate a transparent and efficient process.
Officers stationed at various polling stations reported steady activity during the morning period. Several expressed confidence that the early voting exercise would proceed without any major challenges.
Election officials have continued to emphasize the importance of maintaining procedural fairness and accuracy. Observers from civil society organizations and political parties are also expected to monitor the process throughout the day.
