In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, which left thousands of families in Cuba displaced and homes destroyed, the Saint Lucia–Cuba Friendship Association is taking action to assist the Caribbean nation. The initiative is framed as a gesture of gratitude for Cuba’s long-standing support to Saint Lucia in times of need.
Marlene Alexander, President of the Saint Lucia–Cuba Friendship Association, said the organization is committed to helping during Cuba’s recovery.
“The Saint Lucia–Cuba Friendship Association would like to lend support at this difficult time of need as Cuba continues the process of rebuilding the economic and social infrastructures, which were severely affected by the hurricane, more in the Eastern parts of Cuba,” she explained.
Alexander confirmed that the association plans to make a financial contribution to Cuba’s Hurricane Relief Fund in December 2025.
“This initiative is an opportunity for us, no matter how small, to show our gratitude and support for the government and people of Cuba,” she said.
The association is also appealing to supporters to contribute.
“Our association, therefore, will request from Friends of Cuba in making a financial contribution, which will be presented to the Embassy of Cuba, to the ambassador, and ultimately will be transferred to a special account approved by the government of Cuba,” Alexander stated.
Individuals wishing to assist can contact the association directly. Alexander said, “Persons wishing to make a contribution can actually contact the president at 285-2263.”
Through this coordinated effort, the Saint Lucia–Cuba Friendship Association aims to provide tangible support to the Cuban people while reinforcing the long-standing bonds between the two nations.
