The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) has officially launched the second edition of its signature cultural showcase, Mizik 2025: A Legends Encore, with this year’s event set to honor the lives and legacies of late Saint Lucian musicians who helped shape the island’s cultural identity.
Speaking at the launch, CDF Communications Director Kendal John said the upcoming production would be “even bigger and better,” reflecting the country’s deep appreciation for its musical icons.
“This year, Mizik: A Legends Encore, promises to be even bigger and better, where we celebrate the musical contributions of a number of our legendary singers and musicians who have since transitioned to the great beyond,” he said.
John listed several artists whose names will be highlighted during the show.
“We are speaking of the likes of Nicole David, Lenny Stone, and Panman Scrub, who bade us farewell this year, to other greats from previous years such as Pele, Mighty Mighty, Janney, and many others,” he explained. “We’ve lost so many, yet we’re so grateful that they have left us a legacy that we can cherish.”
The event forms part of the island’s broader celebration of Music Month, observed annually in November. CDF Business Development Officer Michel Hippolyte noted that the occasion provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the individuals who built the foundation of Saint Lucia’s sound.
“Every November, our nation immerses itself in the rhythm of Music Month, with November 22nd dedicated specifically to our musicians,” Hippolyte said.
“It’s a time where some of our greatest soundtracks, like Tradition Well, really swell to a crescendo.”
Hippolyte described this year’s event as a deeply reflective edition that aims to preserve memory through melody.
“For this special edition, we are turning the volume up on memory. We are tuning our hearts to the frequency of legacy as we celebrate the music of some of our amazing artists and musicians who have shaped the cultural musical landscape and cultural identity,” he said.
“These artists and musicians, they’re no longer with us, but their music lives on to inspire the next generation. And like my executive director once said, their voices still echo,” Hippolyte added.
Mizik 2025: A Legends Encore is expected to draw performers, cultural advocates, and audiences from across the island in a night of tribute and celebration for Saint Lucia’s musical greats.
