A quiet community in Marc, Bexon, has been left shaken following the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Jabez Omarian Edward on Saturday evening. Edward was reportedly shot four times in what police are treating as a targeted attack.
According to family members, Edward was rushed to the OKEU Hospital by a private vehicle but later succumbed to his injuries. His sister, who spoke with the press anonymously, recounted the harrowing experience of learning about his death.
“The private vehicle took him to the OKEU Hospital. When I arrived there, he was already in surgery,” she said.
“I was told that he got four shots and I went home, I came back, I asked to get information about him, I didn’t get any information. I was told to return in the morning. I still stayed, and then I saw Rambally come in, so when I asked Rambally what body they have, if it’s a male or female, I was told it was a male and then I was told he’s the victim that got shot in Marc, Bexon. That’s how I knew that he was my brother.”
She described Edward as quiet and hardworking and said, “My brother was a loving person to his family and his friends. Outside of that, outside of home, I cannot tell you what kind of person he was. I wouldn’t stand and tell you. Towards me, I know him to be a loving person to his family and friends.”
One of Edward’s close friends suggested that the shooting may have been linked to a dispute involving missing farm animals.
“The only person I know he had problems with was the fellas down the road,” the friend said. “They had ended up missing the pigs and he had ended up having to take for his friends, but it’s not him that took the pigs, it’s his friends. He had let them go and help out his friends and ended up, I don’t know if it’s the same fellas that came back behind him. So we don’t know, you know.”
Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the killing, but investigations are ongoing.
