Award-winning author Dr Anderson Reynolds has released a new biography chronicling the life and legacy of Sir John Compton, describing the publication as an important educational resource intended to help young Saint Lucians better understand one of the country’s founding leaders.
The book traces Sir John’s journey from his early years to his role in shaping modern Saint Lucia and forms the first instalment in a new series celebrating national heroes.
Reynolds said the biography follows Sir John’s life from the moment he arrived in Saint Lucia as a student until his death.
“It focuses exclusively, it focuses on John Compton, his life from the time he left Canouan in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and he came to Saint Lucia to attend St Mary’s College,” Reynolds said. “So it follows his life from there right till his passing.”
The author explained that the book was deliberately written in a style that makes it accessible to both younger readers and adults.
“The book was written specifically to target both young adults and both young readers and adults. So it would be very, it is very appropriate for 11-year-olds and up,” he said.
Reynolds noted that the publication marks the beginning of his new “Heroes of Freedom” series, which seeks to document the lives of individuals who played significant roles in the country’s development.
“It is the first book of a series that I have started, a “Heroes of Freedom” series, that tells the story of our heroes and heroines who were instrumental in liberating and empowering us and raising our collective consciousness,” he explained.
To coincide with the book’s release, Reynolds will embark on a nationwide promotional tour beginning next weekend.
“I’ll be going on a national tour, which starts next weekend, where I’ll be doing book signings at Massy JQ Rodney Bay, Massy Mega J at Choc and Massy La Tourney, Vieux Fort,” he said.
The biography is already available at several outlets across the island.
“In Castries, the books are available at Hallmark, JQ Rodney Bay Mall. It is also available on Bridge Street at M&C and R.J. Clark’s Drugstore. In Vieux Fort, it is available at Noah Arcade at Hirono International, T&M at the Vieux Fort Plaza on New Dock Road and at Back to Basics at the Massy La Tourney Mall in Vieux Fort,” Reynolds added.
The publication adds to Reynolds’ growing body of work documenting Saint Lucia’s history and preserving the stories of individuals who have helped shape the nation’s identity.
