In a statement released on July 23, the hospital said it was clarifying the situation to ensure the public received “accurate and verified information.”
The institution stated unequivocally that Atkins “has not been dismissed as Chief Executive Officer of St. Jude Hospital.”
According to the hospital, Atkins has been on approved vacation leave since May after scheduling accrued leave in keeping with established employment arrangements.

The hospital further confirmed that Atkins remains in her position and is expected to return once her leave concludes.

Addressing speculation surrounding the hospital’s finances, the institution also dismissed claims that it was investigating any financial discrepancies.
“The Hospital has no information or evidence of any financial discrepancy and confirms that no investigation into such a matter is underway,” the statement said.
Hospital officials emphasized that normal operations have continued throughout the CEO’s absence.
“The Hospital’s management structure remains in place, ensuring the continued administration and delivery of services during Ms. Atkins’ approved leave,” the statement noted.
It added, “St. Jude Hospital continues to operate without interruption, and remains fully committed to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Saint Lucia.”
The hospital warned that the circulation of unverified information could have broader consequences for both the institution and its staff.
“Information of this nature can create unnecessary concern among patients, staff, and the wider public, while also affecting the reputation of individuals and the institution,” the statement said.
“The Hospital has therefore moved to clarify the record and ensure that the public has access to accurate information.”
St. Jude Hospital encouraged members of the public to seek information through official channels.
“St. Jude Hospital encourages members of the public to rely on official sources and verified communications when seeking information regarding the institution.”
The statement concluded by reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to openness.
“St. Jude Hospital remains committed to transparency and will continue to provide updates on matters affecting the institution through its official communication channels.”
