A 33-year-old Saudi Arabian national was shot and killed in China Town, Marigot, on Monday night in the latest act of gun violence to rock Saint Lucia, bringing the island’s homicide count for 2026 to 42.
The victim has been identified as Abdallah Ragab Abozorik, 33, of Saudi Arabia.
The fatal shooting has left residents and business owners shaken, with many expressing concern over the impact that escalating violence is having on community life and commercial activity in the area.
One business owner, who requested anonymity out of fear for personal safety, said the persistent violence is creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and discouraging people from visiting Marigot.
“I cannot say anything, I don’t know. People can’t even go out,” the business owner said.
Expressing concern for businesses operating in the community, the individual added, “I don’t know of business around Marigot because they have how many shops in Marigot and I think they will go down flat down. For the sake of that.”
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has launched an investigation into the killing and is appealing to members of the public for assistance.
Investigators are urging anyone with information that could assist the case to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 456-3754.
Police have not yet released details regarding a possible motive or identified any suspects in connection with the shooting.
