One man was killed and three others were injured in two separate shooting incidents over the weekend, as the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force continues investigations into the violent attacks.
Police said officers attached to the Anse La Raye Police Station responded to a report of a shooting in Jacmel shortly after midnight on Sunday, June 28.
According to the police, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:10 a.m. following reports that gunfire had erupted around 11:56 p.m. on Saturday, June 27.
“Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the lifeless body of a male individual with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner,” the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said in a statement released June 28.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Jason “Scooby” Francois of Jacmel, Anse La Raye.
Police also confirmed that two other individuals sustained injuries during the incident.
“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding this matter are ongoing,” the statement added.
The fatal shooting occurred just hours after another gun attack in Marc, Castries.
Police said officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a 24-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds during that incident.
Police said the victim “remains in critical condition.”
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is appealing to members of the public to assist with both investigations.
Anyone with information relating to the fatal shooting in Jacmel is asked to contact the Anse La Raye Police Station at 456-3600. Persons with information about the Marc shooting are urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 456-3670.
