Saint Lucia has entered into what officials are describing as a landmark collaboration with Arsenal Football Club, a five-year partnership aimed at strengthening sports development while expanding the island’s global tourism reach.
The agreement, announced by the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority on Tuesday, will run from 2026 to 2031 and is expected to position Saint Lucia as a regional hub for football development while opening new pathways for local athletes.
Stakeholders say the initiative represents a significant step toward integrating sport, tourism, and youth development into a single long-term strategy designed to deliver lasting national benefits.
The partnership will also tap into Arsenal’s extensive global fan base, creating opportunities to showcase Saint Lucia to millions of supporters worldwide and translate visibility into tourism growth.
Beyond its marketing reach, the agreement includes plans to establish an Academy Hub in Saint Lucia, designed to nurture young talent, provide mentorship, and create structured pathways for player development.
Saint Lucia Tourism Authority Chief Executive Officer Louis Lewis said the collaboration will rely heavily on digital storytelling and global content production to position the destination on the international stage.
“The partnership includes dedicated content production featuring Arsenal’s first team players, women’s team players, club legends, influencers and solution experiences, creating authentic destination storytelling that resonates with global audiences,” Lewis said.
He added that the initiative is designed to ensure sustained international visibility for Saint Lucia through targeted media engagement.
“Saint Lucians will benefit from bespoke content campaigns,” he noted.
Minister for Sports Kenson Casimir said the partnership has the potential to transform the trajectory of young footballers in Saint Lucia, linking local development structures directly to global opportunity.
“One of these individuals from our under 20 setup, from our semi-professional setup, from our youth academy setup be a member of not just Arsenal, be a member of Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia senior team, Arsenal Football Club and become a world-renowned football player,” Casimir said. “And this is possible right now, right here in Saint Lucia.”
Brand ambassador and Olympic athlete Julien Alfred also reflected on the importance of opportunity, discipline, and seizing formative moments in sport.
“Coach approached me to go to the school in Jamaica, and I took that opportunity and ran fast with this, no pun intended,” Alfred said. “But I took it and I ran away with the opportunity because it comes and it goes and our career is just so short-lived.”
She added that early exposure and discipline were key to her success.
“I would say that that was the moment that, you know, just changed me and made me a better athlete,” Alfred said. “The discipline, the hard work, the sacrifices I learned at a young age.”
Former West Indies captain and brand ambassador Daren Sammy also underscored the importance of access to world-class facilities in shaping sporting careers.
“To be training at Lord’s Cricket Ground, a place that so many cricketers dream of playing but never get to play and here I was an 18-year-old kid just having all these facilities accessible to me,” Sammy said.
He drew parallels between his experience and the new initiative being developed in Saint Lucia.
“And it is so fitting that today I’m here and the government of Saint Lucia for the tourism bodies are creating that opportunity,” he added.
