What started as a celebration of artistic expression has now evolved into what organizers describe as a growing nationwide cultural movement, with this year’s Arts in the City Festival as part of the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival 2026, drawing record audiences and expanding public enthusiasm for the arts across Saint Lucia.
The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) says the 2026 edition of the festival surpassed expectations, with several performances and featured events attracting sold-out crowds and overwhelming public support.
In an interview with the media, Communications Manager at the Cultural Development Foundation, Kendal John, said audience turnout throughout the festival demonstrated that Saint Lucians are increasingly embracing local artistic and cultural productions.
“We had sold-out audiences for a number of the theatrical performances,” John revealed.
He noted that one of the festival’s signature attractions, described as a tribute to a Saint Lucian cultural icon, proved especially popular among patrons.
“And especially our pièce de resistance, as they say, it comes to our cultural icon. We had a gathered dinner, and again, that was sold out on both days,” he stated.
John said the strong attendance and enthusiastic response from patrons reinforced the importance of continuing to invest in cultural programming and creative industries.
“So again, it shows that Saint Lucian’s appreciate what we are doing,” he added.
One of the standout additions to this year’s festival was the inclusion of a culinary component alongside the artistic presentations, something organizers are now considering making a permanent feature of the event.
“We are definitely considering all the options especially for the gala dinner,” John explained.
“The culinary aspect really added something unique and special, and we know food is always a big thing when it comes to Saint Lucia and our culture,” he said.
According to John, organizers are already discussing ways to incorporate the culinary experience into future editions of the festival as a regular attraction.
“And so we’re not opposed to that, so we are giving some thought about making it a mainstay and a staple in the festival,” he added.
The success of this year’s Arts in the City initiative comes amid broader efforts by the Cultural Development Foundation to expand access to the arts, strengthen community engagement and encourage greater appreciation for Saint Lucian creativity and heritage.
Officials say the festival’s growing popularity signals increasing public recognition of the arts as an important part of national identity, tourism and cultural development.
